POSITION SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team under the guidance of the Clinic Manager. This position is essential for facilitating patient care and ensuring efficient operations within the clinic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute designated nursing and administrative tasks while assisting physicians as necessary.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatments by escorting them from the waiting area to the examination room, along with documenting medical histories and vital signs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination and treatment areas.
  • Administer injections, conduct EKGs, assist during examinations, and provide various patient care services as instructed.
  • Dispense medications as per provider directives and manage pharmacy orders as required.
  • Oversee the supply of sample medications, maintaining logs and disposing of expired items appropriately.
  • Ensure clinical supplies and equipment are well-prepared and maintained.
  • Assist with incoming calls, providing requested information and screening calls for the physician.
  • Help coordinate scheduling for tests and treatments.
  • Contribute to the formulation of clinic policies and procedures.
  • Support patients in establishing self-management goals, educating them on self-care tasks, and reporting any abnormal findings to the healthcare provider.
  • Collaborate with patients, providers, and other healthcare team members to evaluate patient progress towards health objectives.
  • Identify barriers when patients do not meet treatment goals or fail to adhere to care plans.
  • Engage in professional development activities and maintain relevant professional affiliations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA, while promptly reporting any potential issues.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality standards.
  • Treat all members of the healthcare team, visitors, and patients with respect and dignity.
  • Perform additional related duties as necessary.
  • Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Proficiently conduct CLIA waived tests.
  • Handle phone communications as directed by the physician.
  • Ensure examination rooms are properly cleaned and stocked.
  • Manage the proper handling and storage of all sample medications within the clinic.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current licensure or certification is mandatory.
  • LPN must be a graduate from an accredited institution with a valid state license. Medical Assistant must possess current certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work within established policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, typically 8 to 10 hours daily.
  • Proficient use of standard office equipment, including telephones and computer keyboards.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Utilization of manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing on a continuous basis.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting, with coordination of eye and hand movements.
  • Occasional overhead reaching and the ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to navigate uneven surfaces occasionally.
  • Travel requirements may include up to 10% of the time, involving both flying and driving rental vehicles.
  • Must be capable of transporting personal luggage and portable computers weighing approximately 25 pounds.
