Job Summary

The Safety and Support Specialist provides critical support to children on our buses and in our classrooms, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Under the direction of the Bus Driver, Teacher, or Co-Teacher, you will assist in creating a secure and engaging atmosphere for children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bus Safety and Support:
    • Assist children to their seat and secure the child safety harness
    • Supervise children at all times on the bus and address behavioral concerns
    • Engage children with educational activities during the route
    • Tidy up the bus after each route and assist with pre- and post-checks of the brake lights and turn signals
  • Classroom Support:
    • Cooperate with the Teacher and/or Co-Teacher to implement daily activities and engage with children
    • Use active supervision and best practices for working with children ages 0-5
    • Observe, record, and report children's behavior and play
    • Provide aid to children who experience difficulty or loss of control and intervene in situations where injury may result
  • Classroom Maintenance:
    • Help to clean and maintain educational supplies and equipment
    • Monitor equipment and supplies and communicate with classroom staff about replacement or replenishment
    • Cooperate with the Teacher and/or Co-Teacher to maintain an orderly classroom environment
  • Record Keeping:
    • Maintain records for each bus family, including emergency contacts and procedures
    • Keep record of contacts with parents and share information with appropriate staff
    • Produce timesheets and UCS facility/maintenance inspections in a timely manner
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Complete one 3-credit early childhood or fundamentals course within the first year of employment
  • Preferred: valid Child Development Associate (CDA) or associate degree in early childhood education or be enrolled in a program leading to a CDA or AA within 2 years of employment start date
