Job Summary

The Library Specialist will perform a variety of tasks associated with library collections, including government documents and general library acquisitions. This role will involve receiving, processing, and copy cataloging items, as well as maintaining the government documents print and online collections within the integrated library system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, process, and copy catalog government print and digital publications through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and New Mexico State Depository Program.
  • Interpret and comply with federal and state policies and regulations pertaining to depository libraries.
  • Withdraw government documents and other items in accordance with FDLP and New Mexico State Depository system guidelines and university policy.
  • Track and detail internal procedures as mandated by depository guidelines.
  • Promote user awareness of and access to library resources and government information in all formats.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings for the Federal Depository Library Program and the New Mexico State Depository system.
  • Enter and update annual collection development budget into the integrated library system (ILS). Track collection development matrix spending and report monthly balances to liaison librarians.
  • Perform acquisition duties, including ordering, tracking, receiving, processing, and invoicing.
  • Complete physical preparation and accounting paperwork for invoices and monthly preparation of payment documents for university accounting.
  • Compile, input, and format data on collection material and collection activities.
  • Serve as the contact point for collection development librarian liaisons and faculty regarding acquisitions and ensures materials are ordered, received, and processed for cataloging in a timely manner.
  • Participate as needed in hiring and training student assistants; assist with daily supervision, direction, and problem-solving.
  • Contribute to Golden Library initiatives that further ENMU's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of work experience and/or undergraduate education in a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Federal or State Depository Library guidelines.
  • Copy cataloging experience.
  • Familiarity and experience with an integrated library system (such as OCLC Worldshare WMS).
  • Professional or volunteer experience in a library, especially an academic library.
  • Experience in a library using the Library of Congress (LC) and/or SuDocs call number classifications.

  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures and experience processing bills and invoices for payment.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with a fluctuating workload and frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Sound judgment and ability to analyze information and solve problems within the scope of the job responsibilities.
  • Strong customer service skills and commitment to providing service effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers, and with other libraries. Ability to work harmoniously and as a team player, thrive in a team-based environment, and skill in fostering teamwork among others.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, TEAMS, Adobe Creative Cloud or other productivity software and with the Web, web searching, and virtual/webex meeting technologies.
Working Conditions

The work is performed during normal work hours. The work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to push heavy book trucks, move, and unpack boxes.
