Position Overview
Coffman Engineers is in search of an Alternative/Renewable Energy Project Engineer for our Burlington office. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, enthusiastic team member with a minimum of five years of experience in renewable or alternative energy sectors (such as microgrids, combined heat and power, energy storage, electric vehicle charging, biomass, solar, wind, etc.). Experience should encompass project management, design, and engineering. Our office environment combines the benefits of a small firm with the opportunities of a larger organization.
You will report directly to the local office Department Manager while also supporting the Corporate Energy and Sustainability Vice President.
The perfect candidate will possess experience in: engineering for various projects related to electrical utilities, substations, battery storage facilities, energy initiatives, power projects, microgrids, solar installations, EV charging, hydrogen, renewable energy, and building/module design; as well as collaborating with subcontractors and coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Candidates interested in business development opportunities to attract new projects and clients to Coffman are preferred.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in WA in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Fire Protection, or Structural Discipline is preferred
- Experience in Project or Construction Management within the specified industries
- Business development experience is a plus
- 5+ years of experience in energy sectors (e.g., solar, power generation, battery, microgrid, wind, combined heat and power, etc.)
- Ability to conduct peer reviews of designs
- Capability to develop proposals, execution plans, and technical engineering reports
- Experience with front-end loading engineering processes and programming
- Preferred experience in total installed cost development
- Effective communication skills with clients/stakeholders
- Proficiency in reading and preparing project drawings, including plans, sections, and bills of materials
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
- Willingness to travel for site support and collaboration with other Coffman offices (less than 25% of the time)
