Position Overview

ROLE DETAILS

DEPARTMENT: FIRE

BARGAINING UNIT: CCPFA

ANNUAL SALARY: $89,320 - $116,917

APPLICATION PROCESS: This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be reviewed as they are submitted.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE will operate under general supervision, responding to fire incidents, medical emergencies, and various other urgent and non-urgent situations, taking appropriate measures to safeguard lives and property. This role involves executing advanced life support procedures in the field and performing various staff support tasks alongside standard emergency response duties.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess a combination of experience and training that equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills. A typical pathway to achieving the required qualifications includes:
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a California State Fire Marshal accredited Fire Academy.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Willingness to work structured shifts as determined by the Fire Department.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Certification as a Firefighter I, along with college-level fire science coursework and relevant firefighting experience is preferred.
  • Current certification as a licensed California State Paramedic with availability for accreditation.
Substitution Options
  • Two years of paid full-time experience in a municipal fire department or California State Fire Marshal certification may substitute for the Fire Academy requirement. Candidates selected under this provision must obtain their Firefighter II certificate by the end of their probationary period.
  • Candidates currently enrolled in a state-accredited Fire Academy may apply but must possess their certificate at the time of job offer.
  • Candidates currently enrolled in a certified paramedic program may apply but must have their state license at the time of job offer.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be current on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List or have passed the National Testing Network Written Exam within the past year.
  • Must reside within 150 miles of the City limits by the end of the probationary period.
  • Desirable: Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
