Job Title: Automation and Controls Supervisor

At Schwan's Company, we are seeking an experienced Automation and Controls Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading efforts to maintain and improve our facilities' operating systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage Electrical and Controls technicians.
  • Responsible for the documentation, implementation, startup, and technical support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming in an industrial automation environment.
  • Direct the planning and scheduling of work for the controls and electrical team to Install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and tune control devices which automate our industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Lead development and training efforts of plant operations and maintenance personnel in the design features process operation and interpretation of system information and application of that information regarding control system functionality.
  • Responsible for the effective utilization of employees' skills, development, mechanical downtime, equipment effectiveness, housekeeping, safety policy administration, discipline, employee relations, cost control, and problem solving while ensuring budgeted performance is monitored and compliant.
  • Monitor breakdowns, determine needs, assigns resources.
  • Keep upper management informed of issues that affect the performance of the department.
  • Review equipment to ensure all safety devices are properly installed.
  • Adjust daily work schedule as needed to meet production requirements.
  • Ensure all company, state, and federal requirements for food safety are met by maintenance employees.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience within PLCs, controls, or automation, ideally within a manufacturing setting. At least 1 year ideally of leadership of an automation team.
  • Must have knowledge and skills in the technologies of general construction, electrical systems, electronic systems, microprocessors, mechanical systems, (., production/process refrigeration, boilers, HVAC, hydraulics, and pneumatics) and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Working knowledge of food plant production and processing equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety, EPA regulations, USDA and sanitation standards preferred.
  • Must have previous supervisor experience.
  • Basic PC skills including expertise with MS Office and Outlook. SAP experience beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have basic mathematical and problem-solving skills to generate and maintain departmental reports.
  • May be required to be clean shaven if trained in the use of and required to use a respirator.
  • Must be capable and willing to work any shift and be on 24-hour call for emergency situations as necessary.
