Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team at Tesla, specializing in deep learning and generative modeling. As a key member of our small, specialized team, you will play a critical role in developing and optimizing large-scale generative models that comprise the core world-understanding and decision-making of Autopilot.

Responsibilities
  • Spearhead the development and training of cutting-edge large generative models, including diffusion models, VAEs, autoregressive models, and GANs
  • Optimize model performance through improved training techniques and methods such as semi-supervised learning and unsupervised pre-training
  • Collaborate with other experts in deep learning, infrastructure, and distributed computing to ensure the efficient and scalable training of large generative models
Requirements
  • A demonstrable track record in developing and training large generative models, including infrastructure challenges, optimizing the efficiency of the training process, and tuning the model for best performance
  • Proficiency in Python and a strong foundation in software engineering best practices
  • A deep understanding of deep learning fundamentals, encompassing in-depth knowledge of layer details, loss functions, and optimization techniques
  • Proficiency in implementing neural network architectures tailored for generative modeling
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with standard scientific computing primitives, including batched operations, grid sampling, scatter/gathering, and einsum
  • Strong expertise in system-level knowledge, enabling you to optimize the training and evaluation processes efficiently and effectively, is preferred
Compensation and Benefits

As a full-time Tesla employee, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive pay, health insurance, retirement savings, and more. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.

Expected compensation for this role is $116,000 - $360,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
