Job Summary

Clark County is seeking a highly skilled Building Safety Plans Examiner/Senior Plans Examiner to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for examining residential and light commercial building plans to ensure compliance with local zoning, building, fire, plumbing, and mechanical codes.

You will review plans for construction or alteration to ensure that type of building, dimensions, and setbacks are in compliance with zoning code. Additionally, you will check construction features to assure proper foundation and support, use of acceptable materials, compliance with minimum fire, heating, plumbing, and gas standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine residential and light commercial building plans to ensure compliance with local codes and regulations
  • Review plans for construction or alteration to ensure compliance with zoning code
  • Check construction features to assure proper foundation and support, use of acceptable materials, compliance with minimum fire, heating, plumbing, and gas standards
  • Provide plumbing, building, and mechanical code interpretations when required
  • Review plans for mobile homes and answer complaints on zoning code violations
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Building Construction, Building Inspection Technology, Architecture, or a related field
  • 2 years of construction-related experience
  • Must possess at least one of the following certifications through ICC or other approved organizations: Building Plans Examiner, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Plumbing Plans Examiner, Residential Plans Examiner, or Fire Plans Examiner
  • Must obtain a minimum of one additional certification from the list above within 1 year of appointment to the position
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid driver's license at the time of hire
