Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing OR Liaison to join our team at Brigham & Women's Hospital (BWH). As a key member of our Central Processing Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient coordination of sterile instrument deliveries to the Operating Rooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the final delivery of sterile instruments to the Operating Rooms, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of vendor-supplied instrument sets.
  • Act as a central point of contact for Operating Rooms, resolving issues and providing support before, during, and after procedure completion.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with Sterile Processing, Materials Management, and Nursing Team Leaders to facilitate cross-functional support teams.
  • Provide operational support to the Peri-Operative Nursing Team Leader, serving as a liaison between nursing and Sterile Processing and Supply.
  • Monitor daily unmet instrument and supply needs, sourcing alternate products or sterilization methods as needed.
  • Coordinate reprocessing plans with SPD Clinical Operations Supervisors, ensuring timely delivery of sterile instruments.
  • Interpret daily needs lists and share reprocessing plans with nursing resources to minimize confusion and foster team building.
  • Anticipate sterile instrument shortages by monitoring the OR schedule, proactively alerting nursing and SPD Operations to potential issues.
  • Participate in Service Line Update Meetings, collecting and compiling documentation on incidents, and providing project status updates.
  • Respond to concerns related to sterile instrument set quality or availability, escalating critical events as needed to SPD Leadership.
  • Compile listings of quality events, including supporting documentation, and provide daily reports to SPD Manager.
  • Collaborate with SPD Clinical Operations team to alert nursing team leaders of instrument sets out of service due to repairs or missing instruments.
  • Coordinate delivery of loaner items with nursing team leaders, SPS Clinical Operations, inventory coordinators, and outside sales representatives.
  • Provide direction to Service Line Resource Technicians, ensuring efficient delivery of sterile instruments.
  • Perform daily checks of service-specific trauma carts, coordinating restocking as needed.
  • Operate IUSS sterilizers when clinically acceptable, facilitating delivery of packaged sterile goods.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of hospital-based computer applications, including PeopleSoft, EPIC, SPM, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Assist with inventories, initiating in-house or outside orders as needed, and demonstrating knowledge of inventory control practices.
  • Participate in project planning and implementation, recommending inventory modifications and supplementing the case pick process as operationally necessary.
  • Maintain par levels of instruments and supplies, packaging instruments for assigned services as directed by leadership.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • CRCST or CSPDT Certification
  • 3-year experience in OR/Sterile Processing/Materials environment
  • Experience as a Lead SPD Tech, Scrub Tech, or prior leadership experience preferred
Working Conditions

This role involves large amounts of time walking and standing, breaking down pallets, and moving contents on rolling carts. Exposure to the Operating Room environment is required, and a strict dress code and professional appearance are necessary. The ability to frequently lift up to 35 lbs. and stoop, bend, pull, and place and retrieve items is also required.
