POSITION OVERVIEW:


As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be dedicated to delivering exceptional care by ensuring patient safety, quality service, and operational excellence. Your role will involve demonstrating clinical expertise in both adult and neonatal critical care settings.

It is essential to possess a comprehensive understanding of various respiratory therapy techniques and to be adept at making informed decisions and recommendations to medical professionals regarding respiratory care options. You will also be responsible for assessing these techniques and communicating your observations to the attending physician. Upholding the ICARE values is crucial in alignment with the mission and vision of Health First.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality Assurance and Safety:


Ensure that all equipment is maintained in optimal condition, addressing any issues promptly and documenting all malfunctions. Maintain thorough records, including patient care documentation, interdisciplinary care plans, patient education, and accurate billing for services rendered.

Provide comprehensive reports to incoming shifts regarding all patients and procedures, ensuring all tasks are completed before transitioning duties.
Prioritize medication safety by managing one patient's medication at a time from the medication dispensing system, and confirm patient identity using established identifiers.

Facilitate effective hand-off communication by verifying all verbal and telephone orders, ensuring timely reporting of patient information to relevant team members, and following established protocols for inquiries and responses.

Adhere to infection control protocols and proper hand hygiene practices. Initiate and manage both invasive and non-invasive ventilation as per physician directives, including troubleshooting and cessation of therapies such as BiPAP, CPAP, and various mechanical ventilation modes.
Exhibit proficiency in acute and intensive care functions for both adult and pediatric patients.


Demonstrate the ability to interpret chest X-rays for endotracheal tube placement, pulmonary artery catheter positioning, and intra-aortic balloon pump placement, as well as recognizing basic cardiac and pulmonary complications. Be prepared to initiate Heliox therapy as needed.

Understand the indications, contraindications, and potential complications associated with respiratory therapies. Exhibit knowledge and skills necessary for performing emergency intubations, as well as elective oral and nasal intubations. Demonstrate competence in arterial line placements and proficiency in SVO2 monitoring and calibrations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the appropriate state health department. Hold a valid AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to employment and maintain certification. ACLS and PALS certifications are required within a specified timeframe of employment and must be kept current. Additional certifications may be required based on specific departmental needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with effective organizational and prioritization abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work extended shifts, primarily involving walking and standing. Capable of participating in prolonged CPR efforts. Must possess visual acuity and hand-eye coordination necessary for clinical tasks. Ability to bend, stoop, and assist in patient lifting as required. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds. Ability to navigate quickly in crowded environments and work with patients connected to multiple lines and devices. Potential exposure to biohazardous materials, dust, aerosolized medications, and communicable diseases. Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to uniform standards.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to function effectively in high-stress situations involving patients, families, and colleagues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital. Must be able to prioritize tasks and demonstrate excellent organizational capabilities. Ability to make informed decisions regarding appropriate therapies and patient care. Must respond rapidly to life-threatening situations. Stay informed about departmental changes and advancements in respiratory care. Demonstrate self-motivation, discipline, and the ability to work independently.
