Overview
The Emergency Response Nurse is a licensed professional nurse who operates under the guidance of the Nurse Manager. This role is pivotal in coordinating the assessment of patients during critical situations, prioritizing and executing interventions to ensure the best possible outcomes. The nurse is responsible for thorough documentation of actions taken and results achieved, while also facilitating communication among various team members and departments to deliver safe, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive care.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions include:
- Patient Care Management
- Responds promptly to emergency calls.
- Coordinates patient care during critical events, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes.
- Engages with medical and nursing staff, as well as other disciplines, to ensure optimal patient care.
- Intervenes during patient crises to uphold high-quality care standards.
- Documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the patient’s medical record, utilizing SBAR documentation.
- Develops and implements clinical guidelines for emergency response.
- Monitors patient outcomes and conducts necessary follow-ups.
- Assesses the needs of patients and their families or support systems.
- Provides education to patients, families, or support systems as needed and documents accordingly.
- Educates staff regarding emergency response protocols.
- Data Monitoring and Analysis
- Collects, monitors, and analyzes emergency response data.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and reports findings to medical and nursing leadership.
- Recommends necessary improvements to enhance patient outcomes.
- Initiates and implements enhancements based on data trends.
- Analyzes patient code data to identify patterns and recommends improvements.
- Monitors 'near miss' incidents to identify and implement preventive measures.
- Professional Development
- Acts as a professional role model within nursing, utilizing sound clinical judgment.
- Mentors peers and clinical staff in their professional development.
- Serves as a liaison between medical staff and patients/families.
- Fosters a supportive work environment conducive to quality patient care, taking corrective actions when necessary.
- Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to attract and retain qualified staff.
- Supports initiatives aimed at performance improvement and quality patient care.
- Promotes professional nursing practices through shared governance and evidence-based approaches.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Required Qualifications
- Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia is required.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred.
- Minimum Experience
- At least 2 years of nursing experience in a critical care setting is required.
- Minimum Skills
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate patient care activities across departments.
- Effective delegation skills.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to perform in high-stress and emergency situations.

- Adherence to the American Nurses' Association Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
- Knowledge of and compliance with the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act.
- Required Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (Single State) Required.
- RN - Multi-state Compact Required.
- Basic Life Support certification Required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification Required.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification Required.
- Additional certifications in BLS and ACLS are required.
- National certification in critical care nursing is preferred.
- NIHSS certification is required.
