Optical Sensing Product Design Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Optical Sensing Product Design team at Apple. As a key member of this team, you will play a crucial role in specifying, developing, and validating the mechanical design of optical sensing systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end design, development, and validation of spectral sensing technology for Apple's portfolio of products.
  • Collaborate with a talented multifunctional team to generate and validate design concepts.
  • Apply good experiment design and the scientific method to reduce design risk early.
  • Run tolerance studies to ensure designs are feasible over manufacturing tolerances.
  • Drive processes to meet Apple's high cosmetic standards.
  • Support external manufacturing vendors with process development and root cause analysis for issues found during testing.
Requirements
  • Hands-on experience designing for a production environment.
  • Familiarity with product manufacturing technologies related to sensors.
  • 3D CAD experience (NX preferred).
  • Proficiency in GD&T and tolerance analyses.
  • Application of statistical tools and techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to craft clear engineering documentation.
  • Able to effectively collaborate with diverse team members and external vendors to define and achieve project goals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with optical module design and packaging.
  • Familiarity with FEA techniques and software packages.
