Job Summary

TransForce is seeking a skilled Laborer I to join our team in a road maintenance role. As a Laborer I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks on County roads and bridges, working under the direction of the foreperson and/or Labor II.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and Maintain Roads and Bridges: Inspect roads and bridges for maintenance issues and advise the Superintendent and schedule repairs with the Foreman.
  • Sign Maintenance: Inspect and maintain bridge signs, and determine which type of sign is needed or desired and gather the necessary materials.
  • Operate County Vehicles: Operate county vehicles, including pickup trucks and backhoes, and hold a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Maintain clear and detailed communication with the Crew Chief and Administrator, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Essential Personnel: Participate in on-call/emergency callouts and snow/ice removal operations.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • License: Valid CDL class A, B, or C Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • Experience: 10 years of construction/structural road and bridges experience.
  • Skills: Knowledge of all county-owned roads and bridges, construction and maintenance procedures, and ability to read architectural/design plans.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to Walk on Uneven Terrain: Ability to walk on uneven terrain and shovel/rake/lift rocks, dirt, asphalt, and stone in excess of 50 lbs. for 50% of the day.
  • Flagging and Standing: Ability to flag (stand) for 20% of the day, and may exceed 20% depending on project.
  • Climate and Temperature: Ability to work in all types of climate and temperatures.
  • Heavy Lifting: Ability to shovel and withstand heavy lifting.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to use backhoe, air compressors, and jack hammer.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to climb, bend, squat, stoop, and kneel for various amounts of time during an 8-hour day.
