Job Summary

Geisinger Health is seeking a skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in an ambulatory setting. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and clinical support to physicians and other providers. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care: Provide direct patient care and clinical support to physicians and other providers, including preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical duties, and documenting in the electronic medical record.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative and clerical support to the clinic/department, including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries.
  • Clinical Duties: Perform clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical duties, and documenting in the electronic medical record.
  • Medication Administration: Prepare and administer medications according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
  • Lab Specimens: Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork accurately and efficiently to expedite laboratory studies.
  • Receptionist Duties: Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and functioning of the clinic, including matching and filing ancillary department reports, consultation and other medical reports in patients' medical records.
  • Communication: Execute and document ongoing patient communication, as directed by provider, prioritizes communications to the provider, responds to patient questions and requests to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient needs.
  • Education: Reinforce patient education as directed by the provider to support patient's understanding of instructions.
  • Supply Management: Inventory medical/surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals non-controlled substances only to ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, document utilization, optimize organizational efficiency and space utilization.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Routinely inspects/observes condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identifies need for preventive and/or corrective maintenance.
  • Quality Improvement: Responsible for actively participating in patient safety and quality improvement program.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience
  • Certification(s) and License(s): Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months, Certified Medical Assistant
  • Skills: Communication, Customer Service, Multitasking, Teamwork
