About the Role

Johnson Memorial Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team in the Operating Room. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the surgical services departments.
  • Perform as a first assistant when assigned, within the scope of practice, competency, and skills.
  • Review preference cards and select the appropriate supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Accountable for supplies, equipment, and environmental support in a cost-effective manner.
  • Drape equipment in a sterile fashion and identify specimens for processing.
  • Count instruments, sharps, and sponges before, during, and after surgery.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Remove soiled instruments and equipment appropriately.
  • Recognize, intervene, and report situations that impede patient safety.
  • Safeguard patient privacy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain stock in Operating Room supply carts as needed.
  • Recognize and report problems related to kits, equipment, or supplies.
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and order of the unit.
  • Facilitate efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety measures are maintained.
  • Assist the surgeon during surgical procedures with a high degree of efficiency.
  • Perform daily maintenance of the department, including restocking, pulling cases for the next day, and maintaining equipment.
  • Utilize non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner.
  • Orient and train others on appropriate instruments/equipment use.
  • Follow procedures for decontamination, sterilization, and disinfection of equipment and instruments.
  • Assemble and wrap/packages items correctly.
  • Prepare items in an organized and timely manner.
  • Operate the autoclave unit appropriately and perform high-level disinfection processes.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology or equivalent armed forces training.
  • Certified or eligible for certification.
  • Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
Work Schedule

7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (four 10-hour shifts/week). 80 hours per bi-weekly pay period. Call rotation.
