Job Summary

Collier County Domestic Animal Services is in search of a dedicated Shelter Veterinarian with expertise in high-volume spay and neuter procedures. This role is vital for maintaining the health and welfare of the animals under our care. Responsibilities include conducting medical assessments, diagnosing and treating various health conditions, performing surgical procedures, and providing preventive healthcare for a wide range of domestic animals. The ideal candidate will possess strong veterinary skills coupled with a profound commitment to animal welfare and a collaborative spirit in working with our professional team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel, addressing employee concerns, directing tasks, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Manage pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative care for all animals received by Domestic Animal Services.
  • Execute high-quality sterilization procedures for dogs, cats, and rabbits to mitigate pet overpopulation.
  • Oversee the inventory and ordering of vaccines, medications, and medical supplies, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining accountability for controlled substances.
  • Implement strategies to prevent disease transmission among shelter animals, adjusting protocols as necessary to combat outbreaks.
  • Administer vaccinations in accordance with established laws and perform routine health examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests for various conditions.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, ensuring timely data entry into the required systems.
  • Administer medications through various routes as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in veterinary medicine is required.
  • Fingerprinting is mandatory.
Licenses/Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a Florida State License to practice veterinary medicine.
  • Must have and maintain a Drug Enforcement Agency license.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License.
Additional Information
  • Salary offers may exceed the minimum pay grade based on qualifications.
  • Essential Employees may be required to work during emergencies as determined by the County's Administrative Office.
