Key Responsibilities
As a Geographic Information System Specialist, your role will encompass:
- Acting as a proficient GIS Specialist within a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) office, responsible for acquiring and managing diverse spatial data essential for public land management.
- Utilizing a comprehensive set of technical skills in geographic and geospatial applications to tackle moderately complex GIS challenges and execute various established projects.
- Serving as the data steward for vegetation and land treatment databases, overseeing data management, user training, and coordination related to tracking vegetation and land treatments from district projects.
- Editing and managing data pertinent to forest development, hazardous fuels reduction, timber harvest, and wildlife resources, requiring proficiency in databases, spreadsheets, and GIS applications.
- Organizing and maintaining data integrity across various databases, ensuring adherence to State and District protocols regarding database management and metadata maintenance.
- Creating content for ArcGIS Online to facilitate data collection by field personnel for forest management activities.
- Providing analytical support and graphical products to resource area planning and project teams, preparing reports, and responding to data inquiries using maps and other GIS tools.

Qualifications
To qualify, candidates must demonstrate relevant experience and/or education:
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service.
- Education: Completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills for this position.
- Combination: A combination of education and experience that totals at least 100 percent of the requirements.
