Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and passionate Long-Term Substitute Physical Education Teacher to join our team at the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter School. As a substitute teacher, you will be responsible for leading a classroom of students in a dynamic and engaging learning environment, promoting academic excellence and social growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum and Instruction
    • Design and implement standards-aligned physical education courses and curricular units that foster critical thinking and physical activity
    • Lead a classroom in which students are affirmed for their brilliance, curiosity, and intellect
    • Model a deep passion, expertise, and excitement for physical education
  • Student Assessment and Progress
    • Continually provide students with feedback to strengthen their mastery of daily, weekly, and unit learning targets
    • Leverage data to provide students with high-impact, targeted, and individualized intervention
  • Family and Community Engagement
    • Mentor 10-15 students through regular advisory meetings and family meetings
    • Develop strong relationships and partnerships with families through regular communication around academic and behavioral successes and challenges
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Actively participate in professional development at the school and individual level, including summer professional development and individualized coaching sessions
    • Engage in a reflective process to continually strengthen teaching and learning practices
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred
  • Teachers must either be certified or licensed to teach in Massachusetts or have passed, prior to the end of their first year of employment, the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)
  • Teachers should hold an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement or complete this prior to the end of their first year of employment
  • Expertise in and enthusiasm for physical education
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in a charter or district school setting serving a similar demographic is preferred, but not required
