Housing Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Housing Inspector to join our team at the City of Green Bay. As a Housing Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local and state building codes, zoning regulations, and environmental health standards.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct regular inspections of residential and commercial properties to identify code violations and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Investigate complaints and environmental issues, such as garbage and rubbish complaints, rodent and insect problems, and other activities related to enforcement of the Green Bay Municipal Code.
- Interpret codes, determine compliance, and issue general repair orders and condemnation orders on old, dilapidated buildings and structures.
- Provide testimony at hearings and court appearances.
- Explain codes, provisions, and requirements to owners, tenants, contractors, and other departments.
- Maintain current, adequate records of all activities, time allotment, and preparation of reports.
- Associate Degree related to the construction industry preferred or any Associate Degree with a minimum of two years of experience in a code enforcement field.
- Ability to obtain certification as a UDC-Construction Inspector under Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter Comm 5 within 180 days from start date of employment.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
The Housing Inspector will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with various stakeholders, including property owners, tenants, contractors, and City staff. The position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, crawling, and stooping. The Housing Inspector must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varied environmental conditions.
