Key Responsibilities- Set Standards for Patient Care: Participate in establishing and maintaining high standards of patient care and nursing practice in the surgery department, adhering to AORN and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure OR Coverage: Take on-call responsibilities to guarantee coverage at all times, ensuring seamless patient care.
- Surgical Nursing: Function as a surgical nurse for various procedures, providing expert care and attention to patients.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and legible surgical records, adhering to AORN standards.
- Inventory and Supply Management: Ensure all necessary logs, information, and documentation are current, accurate, and preserved according to current standards.
- Patient Recovery: Recover patients as needed, providing individualized care and attention.
- Aseptic Technique and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain proficiency in proper aseptic technique in the operating room and autoclave instruments as necessary, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
- Care for Diverse Patient Populations: Provide care appropriate for neonates, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients, based on demonstrated knowledge of growth and development principles.
- Supply and Equipment Management: Insure supplies and equipment are inventoried, ordered, and stocked, ensuring a smooth operation.
- PACU Setup and Maintenance: Set up the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), maintaining all necessary supplies, stock drugs, and completing daily checks of emergency equipment.
- Pre-Op Preparation: Prepare patients for surgery, per physician's orders, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed.
- IV Line Initiation and Pre-Op Teaching: Initiate IV lines and ensure pre-op teaching and anesthesia assessment are completed, as per accepted standards of care.
- Post-Op Recovery and Transport: Receive patients from the OR nurse post-op, initiate recovery per accepted PACU standards of care, and transport patients to their next destination, providing comprehensive reports to receiving nurses.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Nursing Administrator, ensuring seamless patient care and departmental operations.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a surgical nurse in a hospital setting.
- Education: Current RN licensure and a degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
- Certifications: Current certifications in BLS and ACLS, with a focus on surgical nursing.
