Position Overview

A Law Enforcement Supervisor is primarily tasked with overseeing, patrolling designated areas, providing court testimony, training new staff, maintaining documentation, and preparing reports. This role supports a Lieutenant in managing deputies during assigned shifts within a specific division. Responsibilities include briefing deputies on their tasks, addressing complaints, investigating incidents, transporting detainees, serving legal documents, assisting in investigative operations, reviewing cases, ensuring compliance with standards, and leading crime investigations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities of assigned deputies; assigns duties, trains, and evaluates staff performance while developing work schedules.
  • Responds to service calls; operates a patrol vehicle to monitor for legal violations, suspicious activities, or disturbances during assigned shifts.
  • Assists in crime investigations; interviews victims and witnesses, secures evidence, documents incidents, and conducts searches of residences and personal property.
  • Serves legal documents, warrants, summons, and makes arrests; provides testimony in court.
  • Enforces legal orders, traffic regulations, and criminal laws; issues citations or makes arrests for violations and directs traffic during special events.
  • Maintains order during protests and other public gatherings.
  • Processes documents for service and communicates with attorneys, defendants, plaintiffs, and the public.
  • Secures property and assists the public as needed.
  • Prepares and reviews various records and reports for accuracy and completeness; maintains organized files.
  • Transports detainees to and from facilities.
  • Conducts training sessions for department personnel as assigned.
  • Performs court service and security duties.
  • Conducts sales for seized property.
  • Ensures building and courtroom security.
  • Conducts foot patrols and maintains order.
  • Processes and serves legal documents, including protection orders.
  • Investigates and reports policy violations to higher-ranking officials.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laws and regulations governing law enforcement.
  • Familiarity with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of applicable state and federal laws and local ordinances.
  • Ability to analyze complex law enforcement issues and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues and the public.
  • Proficient in English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports and correspondence.
  • Capacity to follow and relay detailed instructions accurately.
  • Sound judgment in performing duties.
  • Ability to maintain firearms qualification as mandated.
  • Knowledge of operational procedures and relevant equipment.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Criminal and Procedural Law.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Certification or waiver as mandated by Commonwealth Law.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Law Enforcement.
