Guthrie Clinic is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory staff, you will be responsible for performing established laboratory testing procedures and other related computer, clerical and technical functions.
Key Responsibilities- Perform accurate patient registration, including knowledge of insurance codes and billing procedures.
- Enter orders, transcribe orders, route orders, and cancellations per established procedures.
- Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements to authorized sources in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, neat work area and communicate pending work information at shift change.
- Inventory supplies, assist with re-supply, and report shortages to Section Supervisor.
- Stay up-to-date with laboratory practices, procedures, and techniques.
- Assist in training by demonstrating techniques or methods, when requested.
- Perform phlebotomy as required, recognizing the need for timely specimen collection in patient care.
- Verify specimen identification and related orders when dealing with specimens drawn or received.
- Follow established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis.
- Organize, prioritize, and distribute incoming laboratory workload with appropriate department notification.
- Maintain a professional, mature positive attitude while on the job.
- May be required to work holidays, weekends, evenings, or night shift depending on job assignment.
- Observe proper safety practices in performing job duties.
- Follow Guthrie Clinic and lab policies and procedures.
- Comply with state and federal regulatory rules and regulations.
- Must meet all requirements to be licensed by NYSDOH, or to be grandfathered in NYS as an MLT, if working at a NY lab site.
- An associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is the minimum.
- A bachelor's degree in the physical sciences and training may be considered.
- Certification by the ASCP Board of Registry preferred or Board Eligible.
- Annually a minimum of 12 CEU's are required.
