Position Overview:
This is an exempt role for a licensed physical therapist under the Texas State regulations. The primary responsibility is to assess a patient's previous limitations in physical function. The therapist will conduct examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans while providing prognoses for patients. The goal is to restore function, enhance mobility, and alleviate pain, ultimately aiming to return patients to their prior functional levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patients and create treatment plans in collaboration with healthcare providers.
  • Design rehabilitation strategies that include specific exercises aimed at stretching and strengthening muscles, as well as improving posture, balance, and endurance.
  • Document patient progress, reassess physical findings, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, to achieve optimal patient independence.
  • Assist in restoring, maintaining, and promoting overall health and fitness.
  • Conduct tests and measurements to assess patients' strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor function.
  • Maintain accurate records of prognosis, treatment, responses, and progress in patient charts.
  • Identify and document treatment goals, expected progress, and plans for future evaluations.
  • Administer manual therapies, such as exercises, massage, or traction, to relieve pain and enhance patient strength.
  • Evaluate treatment effects at various stages and modify interventions to maximize benefits.
  • Assess and record data on patients' strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory or circulatory efficiency.
  • Utilize modalities such as electrical stimulation, hot packs, cold compresses, and ultrasound to manage pain and swelling.
  • Educate patients and their families on treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Instruct patients on the use of assistive and adaptive devices, including crutches, prosthetics, and wheelchairs.
  • Provide information on physical therapy, injury prevention, ergonomics, and health promotion.
  • Evaluate, fit, or adjust prosthetic or orthotic devices and recommend modifications to specialists.
  • Supervise physical therapy assistants or technicians as needed.
  • Participate in staff or facility meetings as required.
  • Exhibit kindness, respect, and thoughtfulness in all interactions while performing job duties.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in physical therapy from an accredited program; completion of a clinical internship is required. A Master's degree in physical therapy is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience as a physical therapist, ideally in a clinical environment.
  • Licensure: Current state physical therapist license and CPR certification. Compliance with continuing education requirements for license renewal is necessary.
