POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the transportation and delivery of freight between service centers and clients while facilitating the sales process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate a tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and safety inspections on vehicles.
  • Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies from tractors and/or trailers.
  • Handle freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • Secure freight within trailers using necessary tools and supplies, including pallets, straps, and ropes.
  • Repair or recoup damaged freight as needed.
  • Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
  • Adhere to hazardous material regulations and procedures.
  • Collect payment for freight charges when necessary and maintain proper documentation.
  • Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
  • Engage with customers to ascertain pick-up or delivery requirements and promote additional business opportunities.
  • Exhibit exemplary internal and external customer service.
  • Solicit additional business from customers and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities.
  • May be required to perform tire chaining on vehicles.
  • May need to perform duties of a road driver or dock employee when operationally necessary.
  • Comply with all relevant laws/regulations and company policies/procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission CDL restriction is permitted.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years or successfully complete the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
  • Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
  • Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations.
  • Long combination vehicles (LCV) are operated in specific states; LCV Drivers in these states must meet the LCV Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards.
  • Ability to perform basic math and counting, with or without a calculator.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to lift and carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times a week.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Drive during shifts on various types of roads and in diverse weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise and vibration.
  • Exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials as per DOT regulations.
  • Hours may vary based on operational needs.

NOTE: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. Employees cannot operate a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement.
