Anesthesia Technician PRN

The Anesthesia Technician plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care by providing essential anesthesia support to the anesthesia clinician during surgical procedures. This proactive approach involves preparing and maintaining supplies, patient monitoring equipment, and anesthesia delivery systems to anticipate the clinician's needs.
Key Responsibilities- Prepares and organizes equipment and supplies for scheduled and emergent cases in anesthetizing locations.
- Reviews present and future surgical schedules to ensure anesthesia staff have the necessary equipment and supplies for routine and challenging cases.
- Transports and sets up equipment needed for procedures, including laryngoscope blades, monitors, EKG cables, ETCO2 lines, pulse oximetry cables, temperature cables, and oxygen tanks/tubing.
- Ensures equipment is decontaminated and in good working condition before each procedure.
- Follows department procedures for proper procurement and handling of non-controlled medications, I.V. fluids, contrast media, and irrigating fluids in the surgical services area.
- Performs thorough, prompt room turnover between procedures, including cleaning and disinfection, restocking of anesthesia supplies, and cleaning/storing of anesthesia equipment and instrumentation as needed.
- Calibrates and troubleshoots minor malfunctions of anesthesia equipment.
- Removes and reports all damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Responds promptly to on-call situations as scheduled.
- Work requires knowledge of anatomy, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and instrumentation at a level generally acquired through one year of post-high school training in nursing or a related allied health field.
- Or completion of an anesthesia tech program.
- 2-year anesthesia tech experience strongly preferred.
- Experienced in assisting anesthesiologists performing open heart, neuro-surgery, and pediatric procedures, preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
