The Transportation Inspector is responsible for ensuring compliance with municipal codes and standards on construction projects impacting public rights-of-way and public easements. This role involves conducting inspections, reviewing plans, maintaining records, and preparing reports to guarantee that work is done according to applicable plans and specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with federal, state, and city codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Oversee and assess construction projects to guarantee adherence to municipal codes and standards.
- Review and approve permit applications for work located in or impacting public rights-of-way and public easements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on construction projects, including inspection results and compliance issues.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve compliance issues and ensure project completion.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve construction project quality and compliance.
- Provide training and guidance to Transportation Construction Inspectors on industry best practices and standards.
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
- 2 years of surveying, inspecting, engineering, or construction management experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Preferred Education & Experience: Associate's degree in engineering or building construction and 3-5 years of surveying, engineering, or construction management experience.
- Familiarity with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) - FHWA.
- Valid driver's license required.
The Transportation Inspector will work in a fast-paced environment, frequently working in outside weather conditions, and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
