Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures under the direction of a physician and Chief Technologist.
  • Prepare and position patients for scanning, administer radioactive drugs, and operate nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment.
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze biologic specimens, and prepare data for interpretation.
  • Perform radiation safety and quality control procedures on all Nuclear Medicine equipment.
  • Perform high-quality dynamic, static SPECT, and PET/CT imaging procedures using patient population-specific standards.
  • Perform various radiopharmacy duties, including receipt, preparation, administration, and storage of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Perform quality control procedures to ensure optimal performance of gamma cameras, computers, and other related auxiliary equipment.
  • Practice safe handling of radioactive materials according to departmental, NRC, and State regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist in Nuclear Medicine through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or CNMT certification through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Working Conditions

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive), and repetitive motion. The individual must be proficient in communicative, auditory, and visual skills, with attention to detail and ability to write legibly. The ability to lift/push/pull lbs. may be required. The individual may be exposed to cold, dust, noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
