Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified lecturer to teach undergraduate seminars in Art: "The Artist in Contemporary Culture" and "Medium and Message." The ideal candidate will have a strong background in art history and studio art, with experience teaching at the university level. The lecturer will be responsible for developing and teaching courses, participating in departmental meetings, and contributing to curriculum development.

Responsibilities
  • Teach one or more of two new undergraduate seminars in Art: "The Artist in Contemporary Culture" and "Medium and Message."
  • Develop and implement course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Encourage critical thinking and iterative concept development within class assignments.
  • Develop and maintain a studio component for the courses.
Requirements
  • Master of Fine Arts degree or Ph.D. in Art History, Visual Culture, or related field.
  • Considerable experience teaching studio art at the university level.
  • Clear demonstration of artistic and/or scholarly achievement, as evidenced by a significant portfolio of creative work with research interests.
  • Familiarity with emerging areas of artistic practice and theory.
  • Ability to read and write at a high level and successfully direct and assess student writing.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.
Working Conditions

The lecturer will be expected to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, with a focus on student success and academic excellence. The position is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations, and is subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association.
