Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist II is a key member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients. As a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), you will possess working knowledge of respiratory care and demonstrate age-specific competence for all age groups serviced by our facility.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and administer non-medicated aerosol and humidity therapy.
  • Plan and administer oxygen therapy, including implementation of oxygen therapy protocol where appropriate.
  • Plan and administer aerosolized medication and specialty gas therapy.
  • Plan and administer COPD care program.
  • Perform airway management.
  • Plan and administer incentive spirometry.
  • Clean and reprocess respiratory therapy equipment and stock supplies for immediate use.
  • Plan and administer bronchial hygiene and perform chest physiotherapy, including implementation of bronchial hygiene protocol where appropriate.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and manual ventilation during resuscitation attempts and aid in rapid response calls when appropriate.
  • Collect, analyze, and report arterial blood samples.
  • Operate mechanical ventilators (invasive and non-invasive) and manage ventilator settings and weaning per protocols and provider orders.
  • Perform electrocardiography studies.
  • Perform bedside pulmonary function testing.
  • Perform overnight pulse oximetry.
  • Serve as a preceptor to newly hired employees and/or respiratory therapy students when called upon to do so.
  • Assist in research projects as directed by departmental and facility leadership when called upon to do so.
  • Provide patient, family, hospital staff, and physician education as appropriate.
  • Attend staff or hospital meetings as required and participate on committees as directed.
Qualifications
  • At a minimum, the incumbent shall have received the equivalent of an Associate's Degree in Cardiopulmonary Services or Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory therapy educational program.
  • The incumbent shall be distinguished as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and hold an active license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care.
  • The incumbent shall hold a current certificate from the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, and it is desired that the incumbent hold a current certificate from the AHA in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
