Position Overview

This section outlines the primary responsibilities and objectives of the role.

Under the guidance of a supervisor and a physician, the Ultrasound Technologist performs sonographic examinations on patients using ultrasound equipment. While the technologist does not make diagnostic decisions, they play a crucial role in collecting sonographic data that assists in medical evaluations. The technologist is responsible for ensuring that all equipment is operational and ready for use, as well as maintaining accurate records of procedures and billing.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this position and may vary based on departmental needs.

  • Document observations during procedures for physician interpretation and obtain necessary diagnostic images.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment and report any issues to the Lead Technologist and supervisor.
  • Explain the examination process to patients and provide assistance throughout the procedure.
  • Operate diagnostic ultrasound machinery, analyze sound wave patterns, and produce diagnostic images for physician review.
  • Contribute to record-keeping for research purposes and assist in evaluating new equipment.
  • Conduct various sonographic procedures to identify abnormalities such as masses and stones.
  • Implement infection control measures and properly handle equipment as per protocols.
  • Perform basic Doppler scans and ensure proper technique and documentation.
  • Review patient medical histories and utilize prior exams for comparative analysis.
  • Ensure all exams are completed within designated timeframes and meet required standards.
Qualifications

Qualifications include a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.

Education: As required by licensure and certification standards.

Licensure/Certification: Certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardio Credentialing International (CCI).
