Position Overview:
This role involves comprehensive responsibilities in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of health conditions affecting various body systems. The successful candidate will engage in the assessment and treatment of both common and complex medical issues, including:

- Evaluation and management of diseases related to the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, and genitourinary systems, as well as pain management.
- Providing care for patients with urgent health concerns in an outpatient setting.
- Conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests to identify patients' clinical issues and healthcare requirements, including laboratory tests and imaging studies.
- Performing thorough medical histories and physical examinations, along with ongoing patient care that encompasses observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Referring patients to specialized healthcare providers as necessary.
- Managing chronic illnesses in adult patients.
- Offering preventive health counseling and educating patients and their families about treatment plans.
- Addressing emotional and behavioral health concerns.
- Managing occupational and environmental health issues.
- Conducting health supervision visits with preventive guidance and screenings.
- Triage of patients presenting with life-threatening conditions.
- Providing counseling for common familial or marital issues.
- Administering adult immunizations.
- Diagnosing and treating episodic illnesses in adults.
- Counseling patients regarding minor psychosexual issues.
- Implementing gender-specific preventive screenings for both male and female veterans.

Requirements:
Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • Applicants selected for employment in designated testing positions will undergo urinalysis for illegal drug screening prior to appointment.
  • Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Background/security investigation is a prerequisite.
  • Completion of an online onboarding process is required for selected applicants.
  • Passing a pre-employment physical examination is necessary.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all healthcare personnel.
  • Compliance with the COVID-19 vaccination program is required for all Veterans Health Administration personnel.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional qualifications specified in the job announcement. Applicants in training or pending licensure may be considered but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA physicians who meet previous qualification standards are considered to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • A degree in medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution is necessary.
  • A current, unrestricted medical license to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction is required.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
Preferred Experience: Board certification is preferred but not mandatory.
