Job Summary

We are seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician PRN to join our team at John Peter Smith Hospital. As a Pharmacy Technician PRN, you will assist our pharmacists in storing, preparing, and distributing medications to our patients. This is a PRN position, which means you will work on an as-needed basis, providing flexibility and variety to your schedule.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepare and label medications accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
  2. Prepare I.V.'s using aseptic technique, under the supervision of a pharmacist, in accordance with USP Guidelines and Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
  3. Make timely rounds and transport medications and supplies to assigned areas, maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
  4. Enter patient and departmental charging information into our computer system.
  5. Assist in maintaining unit dose readiness of bulk products, verifying barcode accuracy and replenishing stock as needed.
  6. Monitor and ensure adequate inventory is maintained, notifying inventory control technicians of products that need to be reordered.
  7. Perform and document quality control activities, including monthly medication storage area inspections and completing required log sheets.
  8. Perform daily ADS routines and troubleshoot issues, ensuring medication management processes meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Current licensure with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • National certification recognized by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, such as NHA or PTCB.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a pharmacy technology program.
  • 4+ years of pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.
  • National I.V. Certification accredited by the National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA).
