Genetic Counselor I

We are seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor I to join our team at OU Health. As a Genetic Counselor I, you will play a critical role in providing genetics counseling, assessment, and clinic services to patients.
Key Responsibilities- Genetic Counseling: Provide clear and concise genetic counseling to patients, facilitating informed decision-making about testing, management, and reproductive alternatives.
- Assessment: Assess psychosocial factors, recognizing social, educational, and cultural issues, and identify, coordinate, interpret, and explain genetic laboratory tests and results.
- Clinic Service: Elicit and interpret individual, family, medical, developmental, and reproductive histories, and determine mode of inheritance and risk of transmission of genetic conditions and birth defects.
- Documentation: Provide accurate and timely written documentation of medical, genetic, counseling information, and medical records to families, primary care providers, or referral entities.
- Research: Conduct clinical research in the field of genetics, assist faculty in research projects, and write clinical case reports.
- Teaching Assistance: Participate with faculty in educational activities as requested.
- Clinical Supervision: Provide clinical supervision of MS in Genetic Counseling (MSGC) program students.
- Professional Development: Maintain membership in the National Society of Genetics Counselors (NSGC) and other related organizations.
- Education: Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) program or plan to graduate in 6 months.
- Experience: No experience required, but clinical competency must be exhibited in the educational program.
- Licensure/Certifications/Registrations: Oklahoma Licensed Genetic Counselors or obtain Temporary Genetic Counselor License within 90 days of hire.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic knowledge of practices and procedures in a particular field, knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the right to privacy and confidentiality, knowledge of new and innovative approaches to genetic counseling, ability to gather, evaluate, and interpret data, ability to give full attention to what is being said, and ability to use logic and reasoning to come up with alternative solutions.
