Job Title: Wildland Fire Adjunct Instructor

Fox Valley Technical College is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor to teach in the Wildland Fire Program. As an adjunct faculty member, you will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of wildland firefighters and educators.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in wildland fire management, suppression, and prevention. You will work closely with students to ensure their success, model the college's core values, and demonstrate commitment to excellence in program/course content and delivery.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Plan, develop, and implement instructional strategies, including alternative delivery methods when appropriate.
  • Assist and advise students with academic matters, including assignments, tests, grades, and career concerns.
  • Research, develop, and administer skills assessments to evaluate student performance.
  • Promote student success through timely communication, growth-based feedback, and implementation of strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, and providing grades on a timely basis.
  • Meet professional expectations by maintaining professional currency and contributing to a collaborative culture across the College.
  • Attend division, department, and advisory committee meetings as requested.
  • Participate in staff development activities, such as diversity awareness and technology training.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications, Training, and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or Associate Degree or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two years of occupational experience in wildland fire management, suppression, or prevention, with at least one year within five years prior to date of hire.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Meet NWCG Instructor Qualifications as a Lead or Unit Instructor, dependent on the class offered.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements at time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.
Essential Aptitudes, Skills, Knowledge, and Personal Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction and assessment.
  • Skilled in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.
  • Skilled in communications and human relations with diverse populations.
  • Ability to effectively interact with business and industry to establish partnerships and address needs.
Additional Information:

Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour. Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.
