Chemist I

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemist I to join our team at Merieux NutriSciences. As a trusted partner in the food safety industry, we are committed to making food systems safer, healthier, and more sustainable.

• Perform analytical tests and extractions to determine the chemical composition of food samples.
• Ensure that proper analysis methods are conducted on the appropriate samples and maintain quality control records.
• Extract desired components from samples using various processes such as distillation, solvent extraction, and acid digestion.
• Calculate the concentration of components present in samples and post results.
• Prepare standards or reagents needed for analysis procedures and maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Maintain a clean laboratory environment by washing countertops, sweeping floors, and storing analysis materials.
• Initiate and investigate customer complaints and non-conformances, determining root cause and corrective action.
• Review batches and respond to out-of-specification results or questionable data.
• Maintain equipment records in software systems and meet housekeeping schedules.

• A basic knowledge of instrumentation and theory, including HPLC, GC, ICP, and AA.
• A basic knowledge of food science to analyze the chemical content of samples.
• An Associate's degree is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred.
• One to two years of experience in a laboratory setting.
• A general knowledge of chemistry to perform analyses.
• A general knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems and Laboratory Instrument Data systems.

The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials may occur. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coats, and eyeglasses may be required depending on the testing process.
