The Patient Care Technician, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN), performs patient care tasks and procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Patient & Visitor Interactions /Customer Service/Hourly Rounding: Interacting with patients and visitors, answering patient call lights, answering phones, and assisting visitors within the facility.
- Performing purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
- Patient Safe Handling/Ambulation/Repositioning: Learning patient safe handling skills to assist in the ambulation of patients and transferring, lifting, and/or repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
- Basic Nursing Care- ADLs: Providing basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
- Admission/Discharge/Transfers: Assisting with room set up, welcoming new patients/room orientation, discharging, and/or transferring patients.
- Procedures and Treatments: Accurately completing and documenting patient care activities, including ADL, vital signs, weights, intake & output, and calorie counts according to policy and procedure.
- Care Companion/Sitter/Observer: Remaining with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe, under the direction of the RN or LPN.
- Department Specific Tasks: Supporting the nursing team by indirect patient care activities, such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, and so forth.

Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred
Completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred

Flow of work and character of duties involves normal mental, visual, auditory attention much or all of the time with manual dexterity is required for sustained periods of time.
Requires visual acuity adequate to assess patients and read/record patient charts. Requires auditory acuity adequate to converse with patients, members of the healthcare team and coworkers who are wearing masks.
Potential for exposure to blood, body fluids and other potentially infectious materials, chemicals and other hazardous conditions which may pose a health risk.
Able to work under pressure to meet patient care needs.
Physical DemandsWhen in the clinical environment, must utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation.
In an urgent event, may need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds.
When applicable, wear an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE.
Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting throughout the shift.
