Job Summary

The Reading Specialist will provide direct reading intervention to students and adapt instructional routines and strategies to provide specialized reading instruction to students with severe reading difficulties. This includes monitoring and adjusting intervention instruction to ensure optimal student growth.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in literacy education and experience in designing and implementing comprehensive literacy plans. They will also possess excellent communication and coaching skills to support teachers in literacy skills development.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide direct reading intervention to students and adapt instructional routines and strategies to provide specialized reading instruction to students with severe reading difficulties.
  2. Coordinate the adoption and implementation of adopted literacy curricula, including providing training to classroom teachers.
  3. Select and administer reading and literacy assessments, interpret results to determine student growth, and identify struggling students.
  4. Select interventions, communicate results, and provide guidance and coaching to teachers.
  5. Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive literacy plan.
  6. Support students' literacy development and inform and train teachers in literacy skills using information and communication technologies.
  7. Evaluate literacy practices and report findings, guide teachers and administrators in collaborative efforts to design, implement, and evaluate local, state, and/or federal programs.
Requirements
  • BA/BS Degree
  • Valid California Teaching Credential: Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist (RLLS)
  • Valid CLAD/EL Authorization
  • Minimum of five years of highly successful teaching experience in grades 1-3 required
  • Successful experience as a Reading Specialist preferred
