Overview - About the Role

Support various construction initiatives, including the building, repair, and upkeep of our parks and facilities. This role requires the ability to work autonomously to finalize projects, with responsibilities that may involve both indoor and outdoor tasks in diverse weather conditions.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

This position is ideal for individuals with a solid understanding of construction practices. Familiarity with basic hand tools, techniques, and materials is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and productivity, along with effective communication abilities. Proficiency in the use of hand tools and operation of various construction machinery is essential. A valid State driver's license is necessary, and the ability to drive or learn to drive a truck and trailer is required.

Essential Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years old.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Superintendent of Parks and the Assistant Superintendents of Parks, the Construction Technician will diligently execute all assigned tasks, prioritizing the interests of the St. Charles Park District and fellow team members. This role demands extensive knowledge and capability to:
  • Effectively maintain designated areas and facilities as instructed by supervisory staff.
  • Report to the Superintendent of Parks, Assistant Superintendents of Parks, and any other designated supervisor.
  • Be prepared to work beyond the standard hours when necessary.
  • Operate motorized equipment as required.
  • Collaborate harmoniously with the public, partner agencies, and fellow employees.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols relevant to the duties performed and support the Park District's safety initiatives.
Additional Duties

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with special events.
  • Support athletic field preparation.
  • Contribute to building maintenance activities.
