Job Summary
The Medical Assistant, Float Team – SLPG is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support in various healthcare settings within the defined region(s). As a professional member of the interdisciplinary team, you will consistently demonstrate and promote the values of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-visit planning by reviewing patient medical records, test results, and correspondence, determining needed services through consultation with providers.
- Completing pre-charting of value-based pieces up to five days prior to patient appointments, sending messages to the Care Team when warranted.
- Preparing patients for examination, escorting them into the exam room, and updating demographic information.
- Providing other patient care services as needed/directed, including maintaining exam rooms, clinical supplies, and autoclaving contaminated instruments.
- Communicating and coordinating with providers or Care Teams regarding hospital discharge, Emergency Department visits, consulting physicians, community resources, disease management, patient self-management, patient education on chronic conditions, and labs or testing.
- Actively participating in department activities, attending meetings, resolving problems, and analyzing current procedures.
- Responsible for disposing Bio-Hazardous waste and regular waste per practice protocol.
- Maintaining vaccine temperature logs, inventory, and ordering medical supplies, disposing of expired sample medication, and stocking rooms to set par levels.
- Performing administrative tasks, such as check-in and check-out functions, opening and closing office procedures, etc., as needed.
- Bringing suggestions for improvement to the attention of Practice Managers and Providers for consideration.
- Actively participating in maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives.
- Traveling throughout assigned geographic regions of SLPG practices.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
This role requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods (up to 8 hours at a time), occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasionally pushing wheelchairs with patients weighing up to 325 pounds.
Education and Qualifications
A High School degree or equivalent is required; graduates of accredited Medical Assistant programs are strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years' experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred, with customer service experience being strongly recommended.
