Responsibilities- Assist the Lead Building Service Worker in determining equipment, tools, and materials required for assigned tasks.
- Serve as a lead worker over other volunteer workers.
- Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled painting, carpentry, plastering, masonry, plumbing, metal work, electrical, mechanical maintenance, and related work.
- Hang doors, lay flooring, install partitions and drop ceilings, repair door closures, and perform other carpentry work.
- Repair faucets, unstopp clogged lines, and perform other plumbing work.
- Install and replace light fixtures, outlets, bulbs, fuses, and perform other electrical work.
- Maintain and repair locks, appliances, boilers, pneumatic controls, heating and refrigeration systems, and related mechanical devices.
- Monitor gauges and adjust controls on equipment.
- Paint and redecorate walls, woodwork, furniture, and fixtures.
- Weld, braze, solder, and cut material using oxy-acetylene and electric welding equipment to repair existing structures or in the construction of new facilities.
- Perform a variety of general custodial functions such as emptying trash, picking up litter, cleaning windows, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms and other areas.
- Perform other duties in connection with the operation of the facility and/or area as may be assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two to four years of diversified experience in Building Construction, Alteration, Maintenance, and Repair Work.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools, and materials used in a variety of building maintenance functions.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to building maintenance.
- Skilled in the use of specialized and common tools and materials of several trades.
- Ability to lead and organize the work of others.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Ability to make cost estimates of time and materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform moderately strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
