Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Bus Operator to join our team at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. As a Bus Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting passengers throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a transit vehicle safely and courteously, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Build relationships with riders and provide excellent customer service.
  • Make stops at designated bus stops to load and unload passengers.
  • Navigate our transit system and assist residents and tourists.
  • Operate on-board computer fare boxes and destination signs.
  • Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Communicate with the Operations Command Center/Dispatch Team to ensure route times and safety.

Requirements:

  • Age 21 or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records search, criminal background check, Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam, and drug screening.
  • Class B CDL Permit or Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and no airbrake restriction.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance.
  • Neat in appearance and compliance with the dress code.
  • Respectful and customer service-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Open availability for flexible scheduling.

What You'll Need to Start:

  • Class B CDL Permit or Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and no airbrake restriction.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) eligible: Physical Exam and Drug Screening.
  • Motor Vehicle Records search and criminal background check.
