Job Title: Phlebotomist
The Phlebotomist plays a critical role in the healthcare team by providing expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. This position requires the ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic, thereby contributing to high-quality care for our patients and those of our partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explains the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection to patients.
- Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Checks all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure accuracy.
- Packages specimens for transport.
- Stores specimen samples according to required temperature and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
- Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Wears appropriate attire including all required personal protective equipment.
- Attends annual department trainings.
- Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Requirements:
- Certified Phlebotomist Required.
- 2+ years of experience Required.
- Phlebotomy experience.
- Must be experienced in Specimen Processing.
- Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations.
