Project Overview

In response to the urgent needs created by the pandemic, the Project HomeKey initiative was established to provide safe housing for those facing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. This program is designed to offer comprehensive case management, access to essential services, and secure shelter for our community members.

Position Summary

The Facility Maintenance Specialist is responsible for executing daily cleaning tasks and performing minor repairs within the facility. This role involves reporting any maintenance or safety issues to management for prompt resolution. The specialist will ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of the premises, adhering to established cleaning schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of the facility, including the building, parking areas, and surrounding grounds.
  • Conduct daily cleaning of designated areas using appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Restock restroom supplies as needed.
  • Perform dusting, window cleaning, waste disposal, and vacuuming in common areas.
  • Assist with minor repairs, which may include carpentry, plumbing, painting, and landscape maintenance.
  • Follow a daily checklist provided by the supervisor to ensure all tasks are completed.
  • Ensure tools and supplies are properly stocked and organized in storage areas.
  • Inspect the facility daily for safety hazards and report any concerns to management.
  • Prepare and set up rooms for meetings and events as required.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a fingerprint clearance and background check.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in cleaning high-traffic areas and restrooms or similar maintenance roles.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of safe handling of cleaning chemicals and materials.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively under emotional stress and manage conflicts.
  • Capability to perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant standards.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality in accordance with workplace standards.

Competencies:

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in custodial or maintenance roles within shelters or educational institutions.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions in English.
  • Background in construction trades is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with homelessness and related social issues is a plus.
