Project Engineers play a crucial role throughout the project lifecycle, offering guidance from initial design concepts to the construction phase.

Core Responsibilities

Project Oversight:
  • Advise the Project Manager on expected tasks and necessary resources.
  • Ensure project success by adhering to established work plans, timelines, and financial parameters.
  • Supervise the design team and facilitate quality assurance and quality control processes.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Design and plan for new construction and redevelopment projects.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including plans, specifications, reports, and technical memoranda.
  • Possess regulatory knowledge relevant to the project's jurisdiction.
  • Understand Zoning & Land Use Codes, Subdivision Regulations, and Design Standards.
  • Implement stormwater management practices and ensure compliance with Best Management Practices for design and construction.
  • Have a functional understanding of utilities including sanitary sewer, water, power, gas, and telecommunications.
  • Execute grading designs for various site improvements, ensuring compliance with ADA & PROWAG requirements.
  • Demonstrate competency in Land Surveying practices and interpret legal documents such as plats and easements.
  • Utilize topographic models for existing and proposed conditions effectively.
  • Exhibit proficiency in civil engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools.
Collaboration and Leadership:
  • Work effectively with internal teams, external consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the growth of the organization.
  • Communicate clearly with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications for Success
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Site Design, Civil Engineering, or Land Development.
  • Active Kentucky PE license is mandatory; Indiana or Tennessee PE license is advantageous.
  • Experience in designing private development projects across residential, commercial, or industrial sectors.
  • Proficient in preparing construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ability to engage effectively with clients, internal teams, contractors, and community representatives.
  • Familiarity with state agency and DOT specifications.
