Operating Room Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Operating Room Assistant to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As an Operating Room Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical suites, providing exceptional patient care, and supporting our clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with nursing care of patients in the Labor and Delivery Recovery Postpartum (LDRP) unit, including preparation, maintenance, and cleanup of supplies and equipment.
- Perform scrub and related duties with a registered nurse, ensuring the immediate sterile field and instrumentation are maintained.
- Stock and restock supplies utilized in all areas of the LDRP, and assist with turnover of labor rooms and cleaning/maintenance of equipment.
- Assist in the nursing care under the direction of the RN for patients in the LDRP, demonstrating principles of asepsis and preparing and organizing materials recognizing special needs of patients.
- Check and maintain specialty and department equipment and supplies as assigned, safely operating all equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Implement case breakdown procedure, ensuring minimal downtime between cases, and demonstrate basic clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.
- Perform desk duties such as answering phones, physician paging, releasing the door, greeting patients, and other clerical functions as needed.
- Adhere to all safety procedures in the handling of hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens, and adhere to LDRP O.R. dress code.
- Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development as outlined in performance review.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; graduate of an approved school of allied health or surgical technology preferred.
- Previous operating room experience preferred.
- BLS required; national certification required.
