Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation and Controls Engineer to join our team at Impulse Space. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in the R&D, test, and production spaces.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and commissioning industrial machinery and systems while collaborating closely with our fast-paced agile team. The successful candidate will have excellent technical skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and great communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and commission industrial equipment from concept to requirements.
  • Develop schematics and electrical systems using EPlan to meet required standards.
  • Create software for PLCs in TwinCAT that is maintainable and scalable.
  • Program various industrial controls hardware (VFDs, motor starters, PLCs, etc.).
  • Select application-specific hardware (circuit protection, VFDs, motion systems, robots, etc.).
  • Develop user-friendly HMIs for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in manufacturing, test, or R&D.
  • 4+ years of experience working with PLC systems.
  • 4+ years of experience working on control systems and industrial machines.
  • 2+ years of experience working on industrial safety systems.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Object-oriented programming in structured text per IEC 61131-3.
  • Schematic design using EPlan.
  • 3D Control panel design using EPlan ProPanel.
  • Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of ISO 13849, ANSI B11, or IEC 61508 safety standards.
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, IO-Link, etc.
  • Working with external vendors and manufacturers.
  • Experience with hazard risk assessments and mitigation plans.
Benefits

Impulse Space offers competitive compensation packages, including a salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, full-time employees may be eligible for long-term incentives and access to medical, vision & dental coverage, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
