We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Substitute School Nurse to join our team at Boone County Schools. As a Substitute School Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing quality healthcare services to our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide emergency care to students and staff who require immediate attention due to injury or illness.
- Train and delegate medication administration and health services to unlicensed school personnel, ensuring compliance with state laws and regulations.
- Assist faculty and staff in monitoring chronic medical conditions and coordinate care for students with special needs.
- Develop and implement Individual Health Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic diseases.
- Serve on advisory committees and provide consultation for health accommodations necessary to support student individual education plans.
- Assist with the development of school emergency response plans and train staff on response procedures.
- Address potential health problems that may impact learning or be symptoms of underlying medical conditions.
- Initiate referrals according to state and school policies.
- Provide staff educational in-services on topics such as CPR, First Aid, and OSHA bloodborne pathogen and infection control.
- Monitor immunizations and report communicable diseases as required by law.
- Review immunization records for compliance with state laws and school policies.
- Assist in evaluating the school emotional environment to promote a safe and healthy learning environment.
- Provide health education information to students, staff, and families, and promote health awareness activities.
- Serve as a member of the coordinated school health team to promote the health and well-being of school members.
- Provide case management information to families through various means, including telephone calls, written communication, and home visits.
- Serve as a representative of the school community and communicate with community health providers and agencies to promote the health of the community.
- Maintain professional growth through participation in educational endeavors necessary for current licensure and membership in professional organizations.
- Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as requested by the supervisor.
- Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and is a licensed registered nurse in the State of Kentucky.
- Has three years of nursing experience.
- Possesses a valid driver's license.
- Has demonstrated the ability or potential to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- As Needed.
- Daily assignments are arranged through the Secretary, Teacher, Frontline, or Principal.
- Board approved.
