As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing engaging recreational programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of participants. Your role will focus on enhancing physical, cognitive, social, spiritual, and emotional well-being through structured activities.
In this position, you will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that all recreational services align with each participant's individualized care plan while adhering to relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Specific Duties Include:
- Developing and coordinating a variety of recreational activities based on the interests and abilities of participants.
- Leading both group and individual sessions that are consistent with the participant's care objectives, while ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Facilitating participant outings and community engagement activities.
- Effectively promoting recreational services through newsletters, calendars, and informational materials to keep participants, families, and staff informed.
- Maintaining a welcoming and homelike atmosphere through thoughtful decorations and seasonal displays.
- Documenting all activities and participant progress in compliance with state and federal guidelines, including care plans and assessments.
- Monitoring participant conditions and promptly reporting any changes to the appropriate supervisory staff.
- Actively participating in interdisciplinary meetings to contribute to comprehensive care planning.
- Transporting participants to and from recreational activities.
- Ensuring participant safety during all events and outings.
- Staying updated on best practices in therapeutic recreation and participating in ongoing professional development.
- Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members.
- Advocating for necessary recreational resources to enhance participant independence and engagement.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Engaging in family meetings and discharge planning as necessary.
By fulfilling these responsibilities, you will contribute to the highest standards of care and support for our participants, ensuring their recreational needs are met with professionalism and compassion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.
- Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligibility for certification.
- Preferred experience of at least one year in a therapeutic recreation setting.
- Knowledge of working with individuals with dementia and related conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking and standing required.
- Occasional climbing and sitting.
