Overview


Under the general guidance of the special education instructor, the special education support assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating the execution of student IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). This position involves providing assistance in five key service areas: instructional support, management and supervision assistance, personal support, assessment assistance, and material management.

This is a classified job announcement for all qualified candidates.

Special Education Assistant (Essential Elements Unit - Clerical) // Holt Elementary

3.9 hours per day / 174 days per year / Salary Grade 7 - $19.40 per hour (Support Salary Table)

[Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase]

(The role may involve lifting, feeding programs, basic sign/signal communication, and medical procedures including but not limited to gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, and diapering of adult-sized students.)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Under the general supervision of the special education instructor, the special education support assistant aids in the implementation of student IEPs by providing support in five areas: instructional assistance, management and supervision support, personal assistance, assessment support, and material management.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • District in-service training (mandatory after hiring).
  • Basic understanding of academic subjects.
  • Substitution or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • The specific skills required of the assistant depend on the assignment, the student's needs and IEP, and the established procedures of the supervising professional.
The following is required for

TITLE ONE SCHOOLS:

  • The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test will be required in the future.
