The H5 Cardiac Telemetry Unit is a specialized 30-bed facility dedicated to the care of patients undergoing various cardiac diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures. This unit caters to both inpatient and 23-hour observation patients, and is one of the few units providing care for individuals with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and those who have undergone heart transplants.

Under the guidance and supervision of registered nurses, Nurse Assistants are responsible for performing essential patient care tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and comfort of patients. They contribute valuable insights to assist nurses in the planning and execution of patient care, respond to emergencies and alarms, and communicate effectively with the appropriate personnel. The H5 team is known for its dynamic, compassionate, and collaborative approach to patient care.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nurse Assistant performs designated patient care responsibilities to ensure patient safety and comfort. They provide essential input to assist the RN in the development and implementation of patient care plans. The Nurse Assistant is trained to respond to urgent situations in accordance with established protocols and is encouraged to engage in ongoing education and professional development. Adherence to the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence is expected in all interactions.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT)) that encompasses the same job functions.
    • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, with or without prior experience.
    • A minimum of one year of relevant experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar role.
    • Enrollment in a nursing program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
    • Foreign-trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States without holding a Michigan RN license.

Certifications/Licensures:

  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license is preferred.
  • Completion of BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation is required.
